Off-Ice Officials: Timekeepers
The Off-Ice Official — commonly referred to as the Timekeeper — plays a vital role in every hockey game. Responsible for accurate timekeeping, penalty tracking, and game sheet documentation, timekeepers ensure the game runs smoothly from the sidelines.
Key Responsibilities
All Hockey Winnipeg timekeepers must register annually, including those exempt from attending a clinic or writing the exam.
Timekeeper Levels & Training
Timekeepers are categorized by experience level:
Level | Description |
Level 1 – Year 1 | First-year timekeepers (any age) — attend in-person clinic |
Level 1 – Year 2 | Second-year timekeepers — attend online clinic |
Level 2 | Third-year timekeepers — attend online clinic |
Clinic Not Required | Fourth year and beyond — no clinic required, but must register annually |
